Sorry for the slight hiatus! I got super busy with school and finals and had no time to test out new products, but I’m back and should have a handful over the next couple of weeks!

First up is an eyeshadow palette I picked up from Ulta while I was there last weekend. It’s the Lorac Alter Ego Heartbreaker Palette. It is exclusive to Ulta only.

Here’s the description from Ulta’s website:

Seems like a great deal right? Well, we’ll see.

As you can see, the colors are fairly vibrant in the pan and are pretty unique as far as combinations go. The highlight and transitional shade are bigger, which is always great. The packaging is a sturdy plastic and it snaps shut rather well.  I’d give the packaging a 4/5 easily.

Now on to the swatches. Both were taken indoors because there have been thunderstorms that never seem to end where I live.

I swatched them over NYX Milk and just bare skin. As you can see, there is some color payoff over the Milk but pretty much nothing on bare skin. It also took a lot of effort to get the color out of the pan itself.

As far as actually wearing it, I gave these a chance as an actual eye look and was horribly disappointed. There was virtually zero color payoff over my regular primer and what little bit I did get, was patchy and faded after a couple of hours. It took me almost scraping the top of the colors for my brush to pick up some color. The palette also felt slightly chalky in texture.

Pros: Packaging is nice and the colors are pretty unique and different.

Cons: Almost no color payoff and takes a lot of effort to get it to work. Doesn’t last long over primer.

Final thoughts: If you’re looking for a palette for summer, I’d skip this and save your money for something else. It’s not as expensive as other palettes, but it’s also not worth it. I’ve had better payoff from Wet N Wild eyeshadows and those are a lot cheaper. If you’re willing to put the work in and layer it over something like Milk, you might have luck, but it’s going to be one of those products you need to invest time into.

Lorac Alter Ego Heartbreaker can only be found at Ulta and retails for $24.
