Let me set the scene for you. Back last year, Jeffree Star teased that he had lipsticks coming out and since that point, I lusted over getting one. When they first released, they sold out rather fast, especially in the one color I really wanted. Redrum.
Well a few weeks ago, he did a massive restock and I was finally able to get my hands on Redrum.
Here’s what the website has to say about this shade and brand:
The perfect red: this matte cool toned red looks amazing on any skin tone.
Our liquid lipstick goes on opaque, dries completely matte and stays on for hours! This product is 100% vegan & cruelty-free! (tips before use: exfoliate then apply to bare lips! avoid food with oil… and no making out, kisses are ok!)
So let’s get to some swatches and how I felt about this lipstick.
As you can see, it is a cool toned red as advertised. It goes very well with my super cool toned skin (which you can see under flash) It does dry down matte and while it doesn’t take a long time to dry, there’s still some time in case you want to mix colors or add a second coat.
Here’s a look I did with the color. The rest of the makeup was a look from KVD’s Interstellar palette, tarte powder foundation, UD Afterglow blush, Becca Highlighter in Opal, and ABH Brow Powder duo in Auburn.
Now, let’s talk about how this held up. I had minimal transfer the entire time I wore this lipstick. I was able to eat dinner (Pasta Carbonara) drink a ton of water and I ate two Quesoritos from Taco Bell while wearing this. Like it says in the description, you should avoid food with oil. The reason is because it will remove the lipstick. It just doesn’t mesh well with liquid mattes (all brands, not just this one).
Here’s what it looked like after eating all of that and 7 hours of wear.
Considering I broke the golden rule of no oil foods and chowed down on that Taco Bell, I’m going to say this held up incredibly well for what it went through. Yes, it’s patchy, but for after 7 hours and eating and drinking with no touchups at all, I’m impressed. Compared to a KVD liquid matte I’ve tried (Underage Red) this one performed better. The KVD got goopy and transferred after a few hours and all I was doing was drinking water through a straw.
The applicator is a typical doe foot that had a small divot that held a bit of extra product. It made applying and getting a straight line a bit difficult and it didn’t deposit product as even as I’d have liked. The packaging is sturdy and feels nice in the hands. Shipping was reasonable given that I had ordered right after a massive restock. I expected a day or two delay as they sorted all the orders and that did happen. Once it was shipped, only took a couple of days and I had my happiness.
Pros: Long lasting, highly pigmented, not too drying on the lips, and is eye safe
Cons: Application can be uneven (but is fixable), sometimes hard to get due to stock and popularity.
If you’re in the market for a liquid lipstick, I highly suggest these from Jeffree Star. He currently has limited range, but did release a trio of blues that are gorgeous. He’s also working on eyeshadows for the fall. Each lipstick retails for $18 and can be found on his website.
