January 2016 Birchbox

It’s that time of the month! No, not *that* time of the month. It’s Birchbox time!

The video has my unboxing and first impressions but if you want my full review, check it out after the jump.

This month the theme was “Big Plans for 2016” and the box came with a cute little fill in the blank on the front that read “2016: The Year of _____”. I grabbed the risk sticker and slapped it on there. Enough about the aesthetics, let’s do this!

So, this is a Green Tea Detox sheet mask from BioRepublic. It claims to help clear up skin and minimize imperfections. The sheet was pretty soaked and was of microfiber material. It unfolded easily and sat on the skin comfortably and securely. After I was finished, the residue massaged into the skin quite well and I did notice some extra hydration and skin firming. The couple of hormonal pimples I had were much smaller in size and were pretty much gone the next day. The full size is listed at $14.50 and it comes with 3 sheet masks. While I liked the mask and it worked wonderfully, I think they’re a bit pricey compared to other masks you can get from other retailers.

Up next we have the Cargo Swimmables Shadow Stick in the shade Scuba. This is a full sized shadow stick sample and it comes in a trio for $22. The shade I got is a nice purple matte that is creamy and easy to work with. Once it sets, it’s there to stay, but it doesn’t set right away so you have time to blend it out. When blended, it retains pigmentation well. I used it with the Color Tattoo Crayon for a look here. I wore that particular look for about 13 hours and there was minimal fading and no creasing at all. Still looked amazing at the end of the day.

They do claim to be waterproof and they are, but these don’t work well in the waterline. For some reason they just did not want to deposit on the waterline, which is a shame. I plan on purchasing the full trio as I like them and they’re useful in many situations.

We got ourselves some skincare from derma e*! This is a hydrating serum with hyaluronic acid. It’s quite a decent size sample and I do like how it hydrates on my skin. It allows me to add hydration under my makeup, while taking advantage of a pore filling primer. The texture is smooth, but quite thin and it absorbs into the skin rather quickly. It claims to give smoother and younger looking skin. My skin is a bit smoother in areas that aren’t scarred, so I’d say it does what it claims. The cost of a full size bottle is $29.50. I’m on the fence about repurchasing, but the sample is quite generous so once I get to the end of it, I’ll probably decide. So far though, I like it.

You might recognize this one. It’s the Tony Tint from the Korean box! Because I already reviewed it, you can just check that out here.

So here we have ourselves a CC body cream from Whish. It claims to hydrate and even your skintone to leave a shimmery bare it all perfection.

Ok, so let’s talk about shimmery. This stuff turned me into a great replica of a Twilight vampire. Then my skin turned into a holographic duochrome disco ball. It does soak into the skin fast, but it’s not the most hydrating product. The full size is $38 and while the idea of going ham and using it from head to toe for shiggles, I can’t justify it at that price.

So, this last sample was a “bonus” from Birchbox. This is the Kerastase Bain Force Architecte shampoo. It claims to reconstruct very damaged hair and split ends.

It also has Sulfates. I go on and and on about how a lot of XXXX-free products are mainly buzzwords, but sulfates aren’t anything to mess with if you have colored hair.

So, with that being said, I did not test this. There were about 15 named sulfates in the ingredients and I’m not taking that risk on my very colorful hair.

If you want to join Birchbox, you can use my affiliate link , which will get you entered into a giveaway to win a new Royal Beauty Blender. As always, Birchbox is $10 a month and I think it’s worth it!

So, there’s my box for the month! I hope you guys like this and if you get Birchbox, did you like what you got this month? Also, what subscription services would you like to see me test out in the future? I’m looking to add a few more.

Stay Beautiful.
