So I have a quickfire review and swatches of the new Urban Decay Vice palette. Check after the jump for the swatches or hit play!
So, this palette is a throwback of older Urban Decay shades as a tribute for their 20th anniversary. Here is a look at the pans:
As you can see, the layout of the shades are a bit haphazard at best. That being said, these are great for pops of color and you can pull off full looks using just this palette, it just takes some creative thinking.
Let’s get into these swatches and the review!
First up we have Suspend, which is a taupe-y shade that has a satin finish. This one is a bit soft to work with and kicks up a bit in the pan. It works as a great crease shade.
501 is a nice bright navy shade with micro glitter in it. It’s a bit stiff in the pan and applies slightly patchy on the eye, but it’s workable. Over a sticky and darker base the micro glitter really shows.
Smog is a bronzed brown shade with a metallic finish. This one applies like a dream, but has fallout problems. It’s especially great foiled.
Moonflower is a gorgeous champagne color. This has a frosty finish that also looks great foiled.
Oil slick is a satin matte with micro glitter. This one doesn’t get much use, but would make a wonderful smokey eye with those micro glitters. Tons of fallout from this.
Shallow is a bit soft in the pan and is a satin grey/silver shade. Works wonders in the crease and quite versatile on fair skin tones.
Misdemeanor is one that doesn’t show up in swatches as gorgeous as in real life. It’s a beautiful smoked teal shade that looks wonderful over a base.
UV-B is a bright blue with micro glitter in it. This is another one that the swatch doesn’t do it justice. Absolutely gorgeous over a base or foiled.
Roadstripe is a bit soft in the pan and looks like an innocent off-white at first, but it has a pinky/purple duochrome shift to it. I LOVE this as an inner corner highlight, especially with pinky looks. Great for highlighting the brow bone as well.
Laced is a nice warm brown matte shade. Transition shade anyone? Sheer, but is quite buildable.
Freakshow is a deep purple with a satin finish. Would make a wonderful smokey eye or halo eye with the next shade..
Goldmine is a downright beautiful pure gold. When I think gold, this is the exact shade that comes to mind for me. It has a metallic finish and if you foil it, you’re in for a great time.
Gash. Oh boy was I excited for this shade. It’s a nice red-maroon shade that pulled a bit orange on my skin, but didn’t translate that way on the eye. It has a satin finish and works wonderfully.
Hot Pants is a barbie pink with a slight metallic finish. It is quite soft in the pan and there is a bit of fallout. This does great applied wet as the pigment really stands out.
Asphyxia is a nice lilac/purple shade that has a satin finish. This is another one that only gets better if applied wet. Some fallout issues as well.
Twice baked is a deep brown with coppery tones. This has a satiny finish and would look lovely with laced and gash for a warm smokey eye.
Midnight Cowboy is a champagne shade with chunks of glitter in it. This is a great lid shade or works for halo eyes. Depending on the shape of your tear ducts, I would advise against using this as an inner corner highlight. It’s quite chunky and prone to fallout. I ended up having major irritation from using it that way.
Mildew is a deep forest green with a slight gold hue to it. It has a satiny finish and a bit of fallout. Love using this with Misdemeanor and Acid Rain.
Acid Rain is a neon minty green. It has a slight metallic finish and can be built up to a nice full coverage. This also can be foiled, which I suggest.
Anonymous is a matte mid-nude shade. This is a perfect base shade for fair skinned people. For darker, it could be a nice matte highlight. Bit soft in the pan, but pigmented.
So, there you have it! The quickfire of each shade and my thoughts. Overall, I like this palette because I like brighter colors. This is the perfect answer to a project I had in mind, so I’m glad I got it.
