NARS Velvet Lip Glide Review

I promised a review and here we are! I know these have been out for a little bit, but I’ve been testing these babies for about a month now and I have some opinions on these. Click on to read those thoughts and check out a couple of swatches of the colors.

So, I’m over the liquid lip trend.

You read that right.

You’re probably thinking, then why are you reviewing some liquid lipsticks?
Because these aren’t liquid lipsticks. These are like some magic lipsticks that were sent from François Nars as a gift to those of us that are sick of having lips that looked like crinkled buttholes.

This is what the brand has to say about them:

Covetable comfort meets confident color in a high-pigment formula that glides like a gloss, cloaks like a lipstick—and feels like nothing else. Semi-matte color glides on a stays supple without drying or feeling sticky. Developed with Oil Infusion Complex, an innovative concentration of precious oils, fused to create a smooth-glide effect. Fully coats lips on contact with smooth, saturated, semi-matte style.

Named for the personal power and play of ’70s counterculture, Velvet Lip Glide shades invoke the era’s new vibe with references to legendary venues and unforgettable attitude.

So I’m going to address these claims one by one, as I do. The first one is that it’s high pigment formula. These lipsticks are high pigment. The shades I picked up are darker, which will show up patchy and are usually the true test of a good or bad lipstick. I haven’t experienced any issues with them being patchy and they go on highly pigmented. The next claim is that they glide on like a gloss. They do, except the wand is a little longer than I’d like, but they go on smooth like a gloss. They have a consistency that is similar to a mousse, so they’re not super runny either. The claim that it cloaks like a lipstick is pretty accurate as well since it coats the lip and stays on. Semi-matte is a great way to describe the finish, as it does transfer, but still has some staying power and stains the lips.

Now, it is one of the most comfortable lipsticks I’ve ever worn, especially in the liquid style. These do not dry down fully and do transfer, but when you reapply, they don’t bunch up or get weird. The best comparison I have is that they’re like the Melted lipsticks from Too Faced, just not crappy.

My downsides to these are that they’re prone to feathering after 5-6 hours, so you may need a lipliner. The shade range is a bit limited right now, but I can see it expanding over time. I also wish the wand was a bit shorter.

If I had to give it a grade, I’d give these an A-

As for price, these are $26 and you can get them at Sephora, Nordstrom, and directly on the NARS website. I purchased one from Sephora and one from Nordstrom. 🙂

Here are the swatches. I only have two shades currently, but I’ll be grabbing more during the VIB sale.

Stay beautiful!
